Back to Mr Nodiggity

Your no dig companion

What this is

Mr Nodiggity is a friendly, unofficial gardening companion, inspired by Charles Dowding and the no dig method. He is a character, not Charles, and not affiliated with him. He is here to help you get growing, the way a keen allotment neighbour would over the fence.

Where the answers come from

He draws on Charles's public blog posts at charlesdowding.co.uk, and shows you a link to the posts he leaned on so you can read the original. He paraphrases in his own plain words rather than reproducing Charles's writing, and points you to Charles for the exact wording.

What he deliberately leaves out

He does not use Charles's books. They are his livelihood and his copyright, so they are off limits here on purpose. For the depth only the books give, please buy them, they are worth it.

How we choose seed suppliers

When Mr Nodiggity suggests somewhere to buy seed, he is going on the seed: honest variety descriptions, reliable germination, decent service. Some of the growers he names specialise in open-pollinated varieties you can save and sow again, others are good general suppliers, and which suits you depends on what you are growing.

What keeps a company off the list is using its catalogue as a platform. A seed shop that campaigns on matters well outside growing, particularly on conflicts abroad, is asking you to buy into a position along with the beans. We would rather point you at growers who let the seed do the talking. If a company has been left off for that reason, Mr Nodiggity will say so plainly if you ask.

This is our judgement and nobody else's. It is not Charles Dowding's. He recommends whoever he rates, and his posts linked under an answer here may well name a company we would not.

A quick, honest caveat for everyone: Mr Nodiggity is an AI and can be wrong. Treat him as a friendly starting point, use your own judgement in your own garden, and for anything about eating wild plants or fungi, or using garden chemicals, check a proper expert or the product label.
